Understanding Search Engine Rankings.

Anyone who at one time or another has owned a web site understands all about search engines, rankings and their importance when it comes to getting visitors to their web sites.

And they well understand search engine rankings go up and down from time to time.

Usually this down turn in a web sites ranking is caused when the search engines alter their algorithms to try and stop the cheats and spammers.

The normal reaction form a web site owner is to take out or put in keywords or keyword phases in an effort to increase their rankings back to where they were or better

Unfortunately the approach does not work and indeed is a complete waste of time. If this should happen to you there are only 2 things to do to improve the ranking that you have lost.

1) TIME, yes time because the search engine bots will revisit your web site in the future and hopefully re rank the site higher.

2)The other thing you can do is write more good content with the right keywords and put it into your web site.

Content is King and the search engines love good relevant content after all they are in the business providing the best information for us surfers when we type in a keyword or phrase so the more good content your site contains, the higher the search engines will rank it. And,

that of course is what we are all after. Higher search engine rankings mean more visitors and more money for all us.

Ideally you should be writing more content for your web site all of the time.Perhaps 1 new page of good content per week or at least 1 page per month. The search engines love new content and so do the visitors who arrive at your site.

Another good move that you could make is to revamp your existing pages now and again. Print them out, read them and see what changes you can make to freshen the pages up.

Look at your pages and see if you can rewrite them or part of them to better reflect what you are trying to say.

Put yourself in your potential customers shoes and think about what they would like to see when they arrive at you pageand then write it the way you think that your visitor would like.

Don't forget to presell before you try to push them towards buying your product. If you presell they will arrive at your most wanted response in a warm, ready to buy frame of mind and bingo:

You've got a sale and a grateful customer.
